Colors in the Sun
Colors in the Sun
This past Saturday, my two brother, my boyfriend & I ventured for a day to the beach (a wonderful tradition dearly missed by my brothers & I because it has escaped from us this entire summer). Finally being able to curl & swirl my toes around in the warm sands & spot a small jellyfish in the water, it really felt like a Texas summer.
We packed light with a colorful beach umbrella, swimwear, change of clothes, cooler full of sandwich ingredients, water & gatorade & make shift seats for each person. We roasted in the hot sun, turning into lobsters by the end of the day. It was truly the perfect setting for a beach day.
Along with the tradition of going to the beach, comes the tradition of feeding the seagulls. Noah gladly invited our fellow beach goers to dine in with us for lunch. Throwing out Cheetos, a favored treat of the seagull, they began to frenzy, swooping around our heads. Lucky for me, the setting was beautifully blue & clear to photograph our friends in the sky. The light perfectly illuminated their soft white feathers, bringing out the contrast of their grayish-black heads and feet.
This guy, could not have been any more perfect. Wearing an orange/red colored tank to the beach where the skies are blue; he complements so well. I enjoyed this shot simply because of the color battle/love between orange & blue. Large blocks of each color & who better to photograph than the love of my lfe (which his farmer's tan & soon to be red shoulders).
Towards the end of the day, as we began to wind down, the hear of the sun finally exhausting the energy that we had & the rays toasting our skin, Noah decided to fashion my green poker visor. The shadow of green on his neck and the red of his skin (as well as the red of the umbrella behind him) caught my eye. I told him to hold still. As reluctant as he was, I was finally able to capture what I had seen. Its a wonderfully simple cohesion of colors.
On our way back home, we stopped at a Stripes gas station. These banners were rifling in the wind, whipping rapidly & creating a symphony of "wipples" (that's my word for them). It was calming to me, I needed to photograph it. I made the truck stop in a certain position in order to get the photograph I wanted. The simple red, white & blue color scheme fits perfectly for this end of our July beach day adventure.
