Impromptu Shooting

Thanksgiving Turkeys

Thanksgiving was, as always, a blessed day that I got to spend with some amazing people. After filling ourselves up with turkey, stuffing, Ryan's corn bread casserole, green bean casserole, Noah's favorite hawaiian rolls & an infinite amount of pie. I convinced my brothers & cousins to participate in an impromptu photo shoot. Once again, taking advantage of the backdrops provided by the alley way behind Ron's house, we began our trek & adventure seeing what captivating photographs we could create. Thankfully, I have a pretty amazing, attractive & entertaining set of models that are always on stand by & semi-willing to participate in any crazy endeavour I can create in my eccentric mind.
Above, is a photograph of my "little" brother Zachary & class clown cousin Chris(topher). Chris came dressed to impress on this fine Turkey Day in his new vest! With this as my inspiration, we ventured into Zach's closet to find a similar ensemble. Behind my dad's house there is an alley way that has countless, beautiful scenes. I thought the wooden fence matched their rugged, put-together, classy look & complimented the color scheme of their attire. For being the first ones up to strike a pose, they acted like their silly ole selves which made for some nice caught off guard, naturally posed photographs. Beginning to act like teenage girls hating on a fictional frenemy, the boys continued the short lived session posing with invisible wine glasses in hand & talking about their frenemy behind her back.
To the left is a photograph of my miniature & dazzling cousin Annelise. Dressed with classic black boots, leggings & a fitted jean jacket with her hair curled & perfected, Annelise was born ready to be photographed. Walking further down the alley way, we almost missed the chance of capturing her by this cute little gate & back house. Not quite sure how to act in her photographs, this one quickly became my favorite because she is simply herself, caught in a moment of pure laughter. The background, being quaint with a sense of nostalgia offers the telling of a little story that I have envisioned to be about a small, pocket-sized lady who lives in a romantically nature covered home, with bizzare & fanciful trinkets covering her walls seeming beautifully normal on the outside to only be revealed as an eccentric on the inside. I feel another photo shoot idea coming along ... To Be Continued ...
A photograph of my little brother Noah. I have always thought that he should be a model! Sleek & unknowingly dressed in today's simple hipster fashion (at times), he is quite an interesting & entertaining subject. I am fascinated with photographing his quiet but silly character & capturing moments during this constantly changing chapter of his life. Annelise chose the background for Noah which I agreed created a beautiful contrast with his attire. Along out walk travelling up & down the alley way. Annelise came upon a brilliant & fully intacted autumn leaf. It really adds an alluring pop of color to the above photograph. The second photograph of Noah is really simple, drawing all the focus to him & his caught off guard look. Seeming to be taking a deep breath as we prepare to walk further, he shares a after-gasp expression that is up for interpretation as to what kind of emtoion could be behind the action.
As the evening drew in & began to take away the sunlight, warm street lights lined the alley way illuminating certain spots with slightly harsh spotlighting. I instantly grabbed Annelise and told her to stand at this telephone pole where the light was perfectly set as her stage for a dramatically lit photograph. I enjoy the direction of the light hitting her face & the glimmer in her eye as if to witness some magical event happening right before her eyes. Her face perfectly contrasted in yellow & magenta as the background engulfs her with hues of blue, you are captivated by the literal twinkle in her eye. Again, always a fun subject to capture.
Not too much thought put into these couple of photographs, however, legs can be beautifully expressive & telling of a certain person without seeing their actual face. What is it that you can tell about each person?
Ending the day, Ryan & I travelled across 281 to my Aunt Di-Anna's house for another meal before hitting up WalMart & taking advantage of the movie deals of Black Friday. At my Aunt Di-Anna's, she never fails to set a beautifully classy, rich, lush & charming scene. I couldn't resist but to photograph the aftermath of dessert. With wonderfully luminous dinnerware placed ever so perfectly & candles setting a dimly warm mood, the story of a filling & delicious Thanksgiving was told; the perfect ending to a wonderfully spent day.
