Spring Has Sprung

Backyard in Blossom

Yesterday whilst cleaning, vacuuming, doing laundry, and trying to organize everything, I could not resist but catch glimpses of the backyard glowing in the bask of the sun. All the trees and leaves illuminating saturated hues of green as the sun shone right through them revealing how truly fragile everything is. The grass lush and tall, being freshly bathed in showers of rain and uncut for weeks, it gave comfortable, natural bedding for our dog Max. You could see two distinct flattened areas where Max has taken advantage of the beautiful weather and sunshine. Once I had a little time to take a breather in between errands and organizing, I ask Ryan to go outside with me and enjoy the day with the dogs. I also took a few photographs since I had the opportunity.

Above is a photograph of Ryan zoning out, probably thinking of either how tired he is from the day or deciding what he wants to draw next. Either way, I favor taking his picture because I can always trust him to show honest and unposed emotion. He just sits so calmly and steady within the mess and natural unkept surroundings of the backyard. The look on his face sums up his truly exhausted and reflective emotions. I decided to use my macro lens which provides this glow and radiance around the edges of the frame. Can't get enough of this guy! Keep a look out for much more of his face.

Directly underneath my bedroom window is a tall rose bush. It is beginning to blossom beautiful large red roses. They peek in and out of my window as if to constantly remind me that I need to get outside and smell them. Tempting me to simply spend all day soaking in the sun with them. This specific rose hung over head showering me with its brilliance; smiling down upon me pleading for its picture to be taken. The petals, opulent and doused with the sun revealed an array of red hues. I couldn't resist, even if it is just a snapshot and not a brilliant composition (which is what I preach to my students not to do). Sometimes you just have to capture the pureness and simplicity of a moment with a snapshot.

Max was simply begging me to lay around lazily in the grass catching some rays. He has created small patches of perfectly quaffed grass that give him the ideal view of the backyard so he can remain in charge and alert to whatever is happening. As if to pose for each shot I was taking of him, I find myself gravitating to this one because of his purposeful presence. He seems noble and kingly, however still humbled with larger objects like the tree and house overlooking him. He looks brave and dashing with a simple sense of elegance to his demeanor. Simply put, I love this dog. He has been the greatest guard dog, friend, cuddler, pillow, and docile companion for me and my family. The photograph really does capture the beauty of not only a pet dog, but a family member.

Last, but cetainly not the least, is a small view of a quaint yellow flower. Hidden under the tangles of the grass, these yellow flowers (which are probably weeds) peek out as if to hope to reach the sun and show off their fantastic color. Unfortunately for this guy and his friends, I believe they were mowed down today. As cliche and oversaid as it may be, we really do need to stop and take notice of the smallest of things. We should find appreciation in natural beatuty and acknowledge even the weeds in our life. I am happy to give this little flower a mini-legacy, capturing its charm and significance to that of my day.

As always, I really do appreciate you taking the time out of your day to look and read about things happening in my life. I hope to provide perhaps a break to your day, a smile after looking at pretty flowers, or inspiration so that you can get out there and photograph the simple things in your life.
