Fest of Tails

This past weekend, my friends, Beverly and Ashley ventured with me to the Fest of Tails, a celebration of kites, dogs and the beauty that McAllister Park has to offer. Even though the weather offered more gloom and gave no other option than the au natural wind blown look, the day was a fun tail-filled festivity that occupied our morning. Thankfully the sun peeked in and out giving us glimpses of warmth. The smell of foods, the whippling sounds of kite tails, the ruffs and woofs of excited dogs making new friends, with live music engulfing the background, this event did not fail in captivating the eyes, noses and hearts of Indie and Paislee. Indie and Paislee are Yorkshire Terriers which my family and I love wholeheartedly. Before I was born, my parents first child was a Yorkshire Terrier named Poppi. Once I was born, Poppi and I were partners in crime! I had a true friend in this little guy. The kindest dog who had the patience of an angel, he would allow my little infant and toddler self to pull on his whiskers and be obnoxious in my love for him. Ever since my first dog, I was hooked on the loyalty and wonderful personalities of Yorkshire Terriers.

Petite in size but big in personality, first of our two lovely girls is Indie. Undoubtedly the adventurous one, hence her name (Indiana Jones inspired) she craves chasing squirrels, sunbathing, making new friends, eating from hers and Paislee's side of the bowl and cuddling. She is fast, in that once she starts running good luck in trying to catch her. She is a lover of treats and smelling the flowers. She is just as sociable as her mom (me) and will go up to any person or dog and start a conversation (sniffing hands and butts) introducing herself because she absolutely loves meeting new people and dogs. She has the body of a small dog but the mind and wonder of a Great Dane or Saint Bernard thinking she can conquer her world with one large step. She is not afraid of anything other than thunderstorms, even then, all she needs to do is be in the same room as you and she feels safe once more. She is my tough stuffed cookie girl, seeing the world through big wonder-filled eyes and hoping to see it all!

Then there is Paislee. Truly my princess through and through, she loves to go walking, as long as you are carrying her, enjoys being outside, as long as it is not wet from rain or dirty from dirt and she doesn't have to touch the ground, adores being cuddled, as long as you are petting her non-stop and finds comfort in sleeping, just make sure you are not in her spot. She is high maintenance in that she expects to be carried to her food when it is dinner time. Unfortunately jumpy at loud noises, Paislee gets terribly frightened during thunderstorms, bumps in the car, kite whipples, quick movements, slamming doors, popping balloons ... I think you get the idea. She is sweet and sassy, outspoken when she needs to be. Treats make the world go round for her. Any kind of noise that sounds like a treat bag or jar rattling in your hands will ensure that in two seconds she will be at your feet praying for a wonderful treat to make her day unicorns and rainbow-filled. But her "best" trait you ask, well, let's put it this way, keep your mouth closed around her. An open mouth is an open invite to a little french kissing for this daring seductress.

As you can see, Indie and Paislee had a wonderful time spending the morning with their Tia Beverly and Tia Ashley. The bluebonnets were in bloom leading the wonderful photographic opportunities. Unfortunately, Indie can't sit still when there are so many other dogs to meet and Paislee does not like her picture taken. Fortunately for me, however, I was able to snap two pretty decent shots of them appreciating the bluebonnets. The photograph above, I think, sums up our day pretty well. At this point the sun was shining down pretty consistently giving warm to the cool morning and still windy day. The other photograph goes to show how much of a little princess Paislee is. I am sure that she was eternally grateful to her Aunt Ashley for being carrying her around in her jacket. This event was the perfect adventure to end our Spring Break staycation.
